Dollar down slightly against sterling as oil rallies.

The dollar is down slightly against the pound and euro this morning as the greenback took a hit after OPEC cut oil production. Since Sunday evening the dollar had gained over three cents against sterling, but that rally has come to an abrupt halt, giving back over a cent since yesterday, now trading at $1.7644. The dollars bull run against the euro also came to a halt as we have seen the currency pair level off at $1.4155 this morning.

The greenback was weakened by a surprise cut in oil production by OPEC this morning. The dollar volatility is closely associated with the cost in oil. The economic data from yesterday painted yet more damming reading on the US housing market, as a forecasting gauge of home sales resumed falling in July. The National Association of Realtors index for pending sales of previously owned homes dropped 3.2% to 86.5 from 89.4 in June.
